​John Hovey
Managing Director

About John

​John has over 30 years of experience in the civil construction industry, and co-founded his first company, S & J Excavations, in 1986. Seeing opportunities to grow the business, and with local support, he co-founded Australind Premix Concrete (1994) and later MJB Industries (2005). JAK Civil is the latest company to be added to the Group, established in (2011). John has successfully grown these businesses from small family-owned enterprises to a major civil contractor in the South West. The Hovey Group of Companies currently employ around 110 workers.

​As Managing Director, John is responsible for ensuring business profitability, whilst maintaining and monitoring all aspects of the business to ensure ethical compliance with statutory requirements including health, safety and environment. John oversees all official correspondence and execution of legal documents.

Aaron Hovey
General Manager

About Aaron

​​Aaron has 24 years of experience in civil works and earthmoving. Starting from a young age with the family business, he worked diligently through extensive on-site roles, where he was able to gain valuable hands-on experience in civil contracting. He was appointed Transport Manager and Site Supervisor before gaining his current position of General Manager of JAK Civil.

As General Manager of JAK Civil, Aaron is responsible for company performance and tracking progress against agreed targets and budgets within Group policies and standards. Aaron is responsible for development of staff in consultation with stakeholders, and managing the day to day operation of the business, in accordance with company values, authority and empathy.

Phil Kemp
Project Manager

About Phil

​​​Phil has over 40 years of experience in the building industry. He successfully operated his own building business in NSW for 14 years, and has been a Project Manager for Commercial Building Companies for 12 years. Phil moved to Western Australia in 2007 to take up a position as a Project Manager with a commercial building company, and was appointed for JAK Civil in 2009.

As Project Manager, Phil is responsible for overseeing all contract works. Phil negotiates head contracts and sub contracts, and is responsible for contract administration and reviewing tender submissions.

Ian Prosser
HSEQ / HR Manager

About Ian

​​​Ian has considerable experience in the construction industry, with an extensive background in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental and Change/Transition Management. Ian has previously held positions with the WA Police Force and WA Country Builders where he was a Designer/Draftsperson. Ian has been a member of the team at JAK Civil since 2012.

​As HSEQ/ HR Manager at JAK Civil, Ian is responsible for recruitment, selection and development of staff, and the Maintenance and Development of Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality Management Systems and Policy. This includes managing and monitoring standards, processes, communications, training and systems to ensure staff awareness of HSEQ matters, and surveillance and reporting on health and safety practices and systems.

Shah Kakakhel
Estimator / Engineering Coordinator

About Shah

​Shah joined JAK Civil in May 2019 and brings with him a wealth of over 10 years experience in civil and structural engineering. Shah holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil and Structural) Degree, and Diploma in Project Management, and is a member of the Institute of Engineers Australia.

Shah manages the review of tender invitations, sourcing and investigating potential new projects, and preparing tender submissions. Shah is also responsible for compiling Quality Assurance information and as-constructed plans in format to submit to the Client representative.

Quality testing of soil, compaction and other site engineering aspects fall under Shah’s position description.

Site Supervisor

About Daniel

Daniel has been with the company since 2002, and has extensive experience in the civil construction and maintenance industry. Daniel has a comprehensive skill set and is a valuable member of the JAK Civil team.

As Site Supervisor for JAK Civil, Daniel is responsible for supervising all aspects of activity on JAK Civil sites, including excavation, pipe laying and road construction. Daniel is passionate about safety and efficiency in all operations, which ensures that JAK Civil work sites operate at best practice levels.

Site Supervisor

About Jason

Jason has been with the company since 2012, and has extensive experience in the civil construction and maintenance industry. Jason has a comprehensive skill set and is a valuable member of the JAK Civil team.

Jason is Site Supervisor for JAK Civil and as such is responsible for supervising all aspects of activity on JAK Civil sites, including excavation, pipe laying and road construction. Jason has a highly developed sense of safety and efficient operations, which ensures that JAK Civil work sites operate at best practice levels.
